Computer Science Integration
These lessons were developed by students taking their first pedagogy courses (Fundamentals of Instruction and Methods of Technology Integration) at Washington State University Vancouver’s College of Education. ESD 112 and WSUV have partnered to integrate computer science fundamentals into teacher education courses with the goal of demystifying computer science and encouraging more elementary teachers to expose students to computer science/computational thinking concepts across the curriculum. Equipment used in these sample lessons is available to check out from the STEM Materials Center.
In this 7th grade STEM lesson, students use Micro:bits to design a physical computing system to support the needs of plants.
In this 2nd grade language arts lesson, students will retell or write their own fiction story and use a tech platform (Ozobots, digital comic strips) to demonstrate understanding of story structure.
In this 6th grade math lesson, groups of students use their choice of platform (Scratch, Google slides, etc) to demonstrate understanding of simple equations.
In this 5th grade social studies lesson, students will create a digital artifact that showcases their understanding of different perspectives of countries at the time of the War of American Independence.
